• Effect of P-MAPA on Tooth Germ and Palate Development
Experimental protocol
Female mice were injected with 30 mg/kg BW of P-MAPA, intraperitoneal, from the 13th to the 16th days of pregnancy.
After the sacrifice of the animals, the heads of the foetuses were decalcified for 7 days , then in embedded paraffin and cut in slices of 6 um oriented to frontal section, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin and analyzed with light microscopy.
Results
The upper and lower molar tooth germs were at the bell stage of development. Mitotic images were identified in both connective and epithelial tissues.
The lower incisor tooth germs showed all its structural components including the presence of mineralized tissues. The palatine processes were fused at the middle line without ephitelial tissue.
Bone tissue was present in the palate.
The above observations show details of the analyzed structure perfectly compatible with the age of the animal and with its supposed stage of development.
Conclusions :
• In spite of the high dose used in this experiments that is many times the therapeutic doses, the P-MAPA did not produce any interference either on the intra-uterine development of the structures analyzed of the foetuses or on normal cell proliferation.
